Who Are We?

Princeton Camerata is a chamber orchestra at Princeton University composed of the most dedicated musicians in the Princeton music community. We are dedicated to executing high quality performances of small-scale standard and new orchestral repertoire. With a collaborative organizational structure and a fresh emphasis on student composers, contemporary pieces, and non-Western classical music, we are bringing new musical voices to Princeton University, and with them, a new era of music-making.

Our History

Camerata was founded in 2017 by PUO students who sought more control over their repertoire and a more intimate space to play and appreciate music. The chamber orchestra was formed with the principles of autonomy, respect, and, of course, performing high quality music. Years later, the orchestra has flourished into a fully student-run and student-conducted group, consisting of 30-40 members from diverse backgrounds.

Concerts

We program pieces from the classics, such as Haydn, Prokofiev, and Poulenc, but tend to focus on less-performed musicians, such as 20th century and non-Western composers. Our ensemble consists of strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. In the past, we’ve performed pieces like Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Márquez’s Danzón No. 2, and works by student composers!

This organization is open to all Princeton University students interested in supporting our organization’s mission, regardless of identity, such as race, sex, ethnicity, national origin, or other protected characteristics.
